Omron Pedometers
One of the great things about walking is that you don’t need any special equipment to do it. As long as you’ve got a good comfortable pair of shoes you can get started.
However, if you are fitting your walking in in short sections – or if you just want to know the total number of steps that you take on a daily basis then a pedometer could be a good investment. They are quite cheap these days – cheaper models start at less than $10 – even the top of the range models like Omron pedometers start at just over $10.
You can use a pedometer to track your progress. Most pedometers will display your progress in terms of number of steps taken, distance covered or calories burned.
You can also, for some models at least, display aerobic steps. these are just steps which are taken after having walked for ten minutes at more than 60 steps per minute.
Some pedometers even come with a USB connection and health management software which allows you to download your data onto your computer. This means that you can monitor your progress and check how you’re doing against your goals.
There are a number of different pedometers in the Omron range, starting with the HJ 150 and going up to the HJ 720 ITc which comes with its own health management software and which you can connect to your PC or notebook via the USB port.
One thing that all Omron pedometers have in common is the high accuracy of the measured results. An accuracy of +/- 5% is normal for Omron – considerably better than many other pedometers on the market. The table below compares the different functionality of the various models:
